Mandela is speaking in the African Parliament. Photo: Reuters from 1963. Members of the African National Congress (ANC) 10 leaders were arrested from Rivonia, Johannesburg. They are brought against them by the conspiracy of overthrowing the South African government in foreign countries, and the allegation of terrorist activities aimed at establishing communist state. The trial proceedings in this case are known as the Rivonia trial, which is inconsistent in history, for the three-hour long speech of Nelson Mandela, given in court.
Nelson Mandela was not among 10 ANC leaders arrested in Rivonia Madiba, who was arrested in a similar case in 1962, spent five years in prison. Rivonia trial began in 1964.
Other accused, including Mandela, decided that instead of participating in the arguments in court, they would present a statement, where their ideals would be, there would be black movement, the causality and explanation of the peaceful movement of violence; And there will be great dreams of transforming racist society into a democratic and equitable society. They chose this path because they knew that this trial was just a formality, only a tool for the production of consent, with the execution of the leaders of the blacksmith movement, with the slander of terrorism on their foreheads, and the entire liberation movement would be curtailed.
The leader of the legendary leader expressed his position and identity at the beginning of the three-hour speech. He started the statement, 'I am the first accused', say. After that he presented his identity. On April 20, 1964, standing in the Pretoria Supreme Court, Madiba said, "I am a graduate. Along with Olivier Tambo, worked as a lawyer in Johannesburg for several years. I am a prisoner sentenced to five years in prison for insulting people and joining the strike in late May, 1961, without permission.
Then he raised the issue of new allegations against him and his logical basis. The state claimed that there was foreign-backed or communist influence behind the actions of Mandela and other accused in South Africa. Initially, the complaint was totally 'false', Mandela said, 'I did what I did as a person and leader. I have done this on my experience in South Africa and standing on my own felt glorious African past, not in the words of an outsider. '
What motivated Mandela to release this movement? Yes, he has solved this question. Along with denial of foreign or communist influence, he has pronounced the name of the African leader, who fought against British colonial rule, who gave life to different levels of freedom and liberation movement. Madiba said, "From a short time I dreamed of being like them. And all this inspired me to do so, for which today a charge has been brought against me. "
This is the part of Mandela's day's speech. Because soon after he entered the directive to refute the allegation of violence against him. No, he did not reject the direct allegations like everyone else. He chose this stage as the tool to unveil the ANC's ideology and expose the oppressive character of the state. He said, "On the question of violence, I have to say that some facts of what has been said so far in the court are false. I do not deny that I was planning a sabotage work. I did not plan to love violence or irresponsibility. I have made this plan after analyzing the political situation arising out of mismanagement, abuses of power, and the oppression of white people running on my people for many years. '
In the speech, he mentioned himself as one of the founders of the ANC's armed unit Umkhnato Wei Szeu, and said, "Until I was arrested in August 1962, I was strongly involved with all the activities of this armed organization." In this part of the statement, he has relations with the Communist Party between the ANC and Umnatore. Its synthesis highlighted various topics. And most importantly, the reason for choosing such strategies in Umnatore. There can be no more effective strategy than refuting a fortnightly complaint from the state. Obviously he said, 'I want to explain what they want to achieve, what they have decided as a way of achieving this and why.'
